Personalizing the survey invitations and communications with
respondents can significantly increase response rates.

Once the survey questionnaire has been programmed and is ready to take 'live', a personalized email invitation will be prepared.  Overall, the email invitation serves to 1) introduce the purpose and context of the research study; 2) explain how and why the respondent was selected to participate in the survey; 3) formally invite the respondent to partake in the study; 4) ensure respondents that their privacy and confidentiality will be respected; and 5) provide all necessary information to access and complete the online survey.

The personalized email incorporates, where available, all pertinent personal or customer information about the respondent (e.g., first/last name, email address, position within a company).  Additionally, the respondent's unique username/password information and the URL link to access the survey are included.  If desired, the URL will be made click-able with all login information (username and password) embedded in the link. The respondent is automatically logged into the survey once the link has been clicked.

Personalizing the survey invitations and communications with respondents can significantly increase response rates, expedite the survey process for respondents, and increase their overall satisfaction with the survey experience.  However, there would be reassurance that the such information would be held in strict confidence and will not be linked back to their responses.

Finally, included in the email invitation would be all relevant contact information for technical support.

Minimizing Non-Response Error
The extent of non-response error varies by survey data collection mode.  Strategies to increase response rates for online surveys can include:

1: Advanced notification of the survey via preliminary email alerts.  Respondents are made aware of the upcoming study and may be less likely to disregard the official invitation as "junk mail" or spam.

2: Personalizing the survey invitations and communications with respondents can significantly increase response rates, expedite the survey process for respondents, and increase their overall satisfaction with the survey experience.

3: Then, during the course of data collection, follow up email reminder notices can serve to prompt respondents who had yet to complete the survey or had simply forgotten.

4: Intrinsic (e.g., personal appeal, importance of research, opportunity to express opinion) and extrinsic motivational (i.e., incentives) appeals can also significantly increase survey participation.
